What to do when a loved one passes away
If your loved one passes away in a nursing home or hospital
If your loved one has passed away in hospital or a nursing home, the carers will contact the doctors to come and confirm the cause of death.
Please make initial contact with us, and we will then explain the process of bringing you loved ones into our care.
If your loved one has passed in a hospital, we will guide you on how to obtain a Certificate of Cremation or Burial, which is known as a Green Certificate, which will enable us to bring your loved one into our care.

If your loved one has passed away at home
If a loved one passes away at home, the first thing to do is to contact their GP.
Their usual GP will attend to verify the death and this is an requirement before we can bring you loved one into our care.
A medical certificate may be completed whilst the GP is with you, however you may need to collect it from the surgery.
Once the medical certificate has been completed, you can then make an appointment with your local registry office to register the death.
Once the death has been registered, and you have received the death certificate and the certificate of burial or cremation, we can then make necessary arrangements to support you through the funeral arrangements.

If your loved one passes away and it's unexpected
If your loved one hasn’t seen a GP within 14 days, it is standard practice for the passing to be passed to the coroner. This just means that an officer will look over the paperwork relating to your loved one, to establish the best way of determining the cause of death.
If the death of a loved one has been passed to the HM Coroner's office, the registration of the death is different.
If the HM Coroner has gathered the cause of death, the registration will be made from the coroner.
The coroner's office will liaise with both the family and the chosen funeral director, whilst your loved one is in their care and will also notify everyone involved when the deceased is ready to be moved into the funeral directors care.
COVID 19 Regulations
During these times the process of registering the death is a little different. You are not required to leave your house to register a Death.
A professional who is dealing with your loved ones passing, either a District Nurse, Doctor or Coroner will notify the relevant people, all the details will then be forwarded of your loved one to the registrar who will then contact you. The registering of the death will be done over the phone.
All certificates will be posted to the next of kin and duplicates are still available upon request.
